Our best DIY is coming December 2021! Most of you probably have already seen our pregnancy announcement on Instagram, but if not, Justin and I are so excited to share that we are expecting our first baby this December! Words cannot describe how excited we are. Total transparency, this was definitely not a planned pregnancy but we feel truly blessed and grateful for this next chapter in our lives.
HOW/WHEN DID WE FIND OUT?
We found out we were expecting on Thursday May 6, 2021. A couple of weeks prior to that day, I was laying on the couch feeling completely miserable and I decided to google pregnancy symptoms. As I was scrolling through the list I was like well, damn. I literally checked off every symptom on the list. That night at dinner I told Justin that I thought I may be pregnant. He offered to go pick up some pregnancy test the next day after work. I decided to wait a couple of days before taking them because I was too nervous to face the truth. In my heart of hearts, I just knew I was pregnant.
On the morning of the 6th, I woke up and went to work. While at work I had unbearable stomach cramps and I felt so nauseated that I went to the restroom. While in the bathroom stall, I had a little pep talk with the “baby”. I said, “I don’t know if you’re in there but if you are, I’m going to need you to stop making mommy sick.” Never have I ever done anything remotely like that before. After that, I knew I had to take the test once I got home. When I took the test, it immediately read pregnant. I was shocked. So many different emotions ran through me. I’ve always planned on a cute way of telling Justin that we were expecting but all of that went out the window when I saw “pregnant” on the stick. I walked out of our master bathroom to go look for Justin. I almost turned around and changed my mind, I stood in the living room contemplating on what I should do for a few minutes but I knew that this wasn’t something I could keep a secret from him.
I walked into his room and sat down next to him on the sofa. He was in the middle of a video game and I asked him how his game was going. Which is a strange question coming from me so he knew something was up. He said I made the creepiest and weirdest laugh/facial expression combination. I couldn’t pull myself together so I just blurted out “I’m pregnant.” Justin’s response, “Shut up. No way! I don’t believe you.” So I showed him the pregnancy test. He was in total disbelief but very excited. It was awkward and sweet all rolled into one. We decided to keep the news to ourselves until I went to the doctors.
I scheduled a doctor’s appointment for the following Monday to do blood work. On Wednesday May 12, I received a phone call from my doctor’s office and my hCG blood levels confirmed that we are indeed pregnant! At the time I didn’t know how far along I was since I couldn’t remember the last time I had my period. For the past few months, my periods were extremely irregular due to my lack of taking my birth control consistently. Whoops! I scheduled another doctor’s appointment to do a transvaginal ultrasound the following week which would give me a more accurate indication of how far along I was.
We went to our first doctor’s appointment on Monday May 17th and that was the first time we got to see Little Nut (our nickname for the time being)! It was the most surreal moment and I’m so glad that Justin was able to be there to experience it with me. We found out that we were 7 weeks and 5 days along. Little Nut was the size of a blueberry! We left the office with a sigh of relief that everything looked good. We came to the realization that this was real. It is all real. This is really happening! With our ultrasound photos in hand, it was time to tell the family.
HOW DID WE TELL OUR FAMILIES
For the most part we told our family members in person. We started with mainly just our immediate family members and grandparents. The first people we told was my parents. I pretty much just blurted it out in the middle of a conversation. Their reaction was priceless and I wish we caught it on camera. We told them the Sunday before our ultrasound appointment so I didn’t have any photos to show them at the time. I was just so excited to share the news with them.
For Justin’s family, he had this idea of telling them that we received a couple of our wedding photos and asked if they wanted to see them. He then proceeded to tell them that it was printed on some weird photo paper and handed them the ultrasound photos. They were all taken by surprise. Almost everyone cried each time we did it. I’m shocked that his plan worked so flawlessly!
These past few weeks have been so special. Baby Noble is due on December 29th. We can’t wait for what’s to come and to share this journey with you guys! Thank you so much for all of your overwhelming support and kind messages on Instagram. Looking forward to sharing the next update. XO
