Prenatal Vitamins: When you first find out you’re pregnant, the first thing you want to do is to start taking prenatal vitamins if you aren’t already. Prenatal vitamins come in all different forms: pills, gel capsules, gummies. Find what works best for you. I don’t like taking pills so for my pregnancies I used gummies with my first and gel capsules with my second. If you do choose to go the gummy route you will also have to get iron supplements because most prenatal gummies do not contain iron.
Tumbler: Staying hydrated throughout your pregnancy is so important. I love my Stanley. It keeps my water cold and let’s be honest, the aesthetics. I would fill my 40oz right when I got to work and then do a refill when I got off and finished it before going to bed.
Belly Butter or Oil: As your baby bump begins to grow your skin will start to get itchy. I highly recommend getting a high-quality belly cream. My favorite go-to is the Burt’s Bee Mama Belly Butter. It’s thick and nourishes your skin so well. I used it throughout both my pregnancies.
Wedge Pillow or Pregnancy Pillow: I bought a wedge pillow for my second pregnancy and I wish I had it sooner! It’s such a versatile pillow: use it for your back, under the belly or between your legs. I still use it every single day.
When I was pregnant with my first, my SIL gifted me a pregnancy pillow. If you are petite like I am, it might be too big in the early stages. I found that the pregnancy pillow came in handy for me during the middle of my second trimester once I got a lot bigger.
Cool Mist Humidifier: I’m not sure if it was because this was my second pregnancy or the season I was pregnant (Fall baby) but my nose was so dry. It was painful to just breathe. Having a cool mist humidifier + saline spray helped tremendously. Also, you can continue to use it when the little one is here + to help them when they’re sick.
Ginger Ale: Throughout pregnancy you can expect tummy aches and nausea. I found drinking ginger ale helped. I’m a huge soda drinker and it was hard having to give that up when I became pregnant. My friend introduced me to Zevia after I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes during my first pregnancy. Majority of their flavors are sugar free and caffeine free.
Promptly Journal: Journaling is a great way to remember this special time. I love that not only does it focus on your pregnancy milestones but also from the baby’s birth to their 18th birthday. If consistent, it would be a great gift to give them when they’re older!
Heating Pad: This is hands down one of the best purchase I’ve ever made. Everyone needs to have a heating pad! At around 15 weeks, my lower back and pelvic pain started up. It was brutal. The heating pad was a godsend especially since you are limited on pain meds that you are allowed to take. It’s also great for postpartum, menstrual, and muscle cramps. As well as the transition hack to get your baby to sleep in their bed after contact napping.
Fiber One Bars: One of the main pregnancy symptom I had was constipation. I ate these throughout my pregnancy as well as in the fourth trimester. You will need all the help you can get that first week after having your baby. Plus it doubles as a great snack!
Red Raspberry Leaf Tea: This tea is known for strengthening the uterus and pelvic area. Honestly it’s like a hug for your uterus and it tasted great. As always, discuss with your midwife or OB before use.
Maternity or Nursing Bra: Just like your belly, your breast will also grow during your pregnancy. You want to invest in a good stretchy bra. I opted to get a nursing bra right away because they are so darn comfortable and then you can continue to use them if you decide to nurse or pump after baby arrives.
Comfortable Underwear: I found these underwear from Target that are seamless and beyond comfortable if you are wanting something that goes under the belly. Once the bump was bumping, I preferred to wear high waisted underwear to help support it.
Free People Hot Shot Onesie: Technically this is not a maternity outfit, but that is why it’s so amazing. This was my one splurge worthy item when I was pregnant with my second and I can not recommend it enough. Since it’s meant to be oversized, I ordered it in my normal pre-pregnancy size and it had plenty of room for my growing belly. Honestly, I think it looks even cuter when styled with the bump.
I also own the Amazon dupe version. Which is a good alternative!
Maternity Leggings or Biker Shorts: When I was pregnant with my first I lived in maternity leggings. These crossover from Target and these from Amazon are my go-to. Both of these are over the belly and super affordable. With my second, since I was at my biggest during the summer heat I mainly wore these biker shorts.
Comfy Pajamas: When you’re pregnant all you want is to be comfy. These pajamas are not only cute but so comfortable. Perfect for lounging and sleep.
Smocked Dress: Let’s be honest, there are so many times during the pregnancy journey were you may not feel your prettiest. I liked having one go-to pretty dress to take all the stress away for any special events I had. This is also not a maternity dress so you can wear it after baby arrives and it has pockets!
I hope you found these recommendations helpful!
