Despite my love for all things white and neutral, deep down I’m a moody girl at heart. I love dark, rich tones, and black is literally my favorite color. So, when it came time to design Colt’s nursery nook I knew I wanted to do something moody.
The paint color
The great thing about designing a small space is that you can really experiment and be bold with your choices. I didn’t want to go full black for his paint color but essentially wanted a very dark green. Not sure why green screams baby boy to me but it just does.
One day I was on TikTok and a video from The Martinez Casita popped up on my feed with their powder bathroom makeover and it was exactly what I wanted. From the paint color to the trim work that they did. I knew it would be perfect for this little space. The paint color is Sherwin Williams Night Owl and I got it in a satin finish. SW describes the paint color as a neutral blend of green and charcoal gray.
Here is a photo of the current state of what will be the nursery nook. It’s literally just a half wall that used to be a kitchenette. I plan on having Colt sleep in his bassinet beside me so this spot will mainly just house an old dresser that I plan on DIYing that will also double as a changing table.
Since this used to be a kitchenette it had all sorts of crazy plumbing going on. We reach out for a quote on how much it would cost to remove it and it came back over $2K! I said, no, thank you! So we decided to bump out the wall instead. Losing minimal space while saving 2 grand made more sense to me.
This is how the room looked like before we started demo. I do not miss the blue walls and the smell of mold. This house has seriously come a long way! I decided to keep the mini fridge spot since it already had an outlet there. Plus a mini fridge would be useful for middle of the night feedings.
I still want to maximize the space as much as possible so the idea of doing built-ins all the way up came to mind. I can store his little knick knacks in this spot. It will also conceal the mini fridge a little bit better. The built in on my mood board is from Plank and Pillow’s DIY Built-In Tutorial I plan on following/modifying what they did to fit our needs.
We are still waiting on getting the drywall taped and float. Hoping it’ll get done this weekend. The nesting phase has already started to hit me so I can’t wait to get the ball going. He’s going to be here before we know it! Come back to check out the reveal once it’s done!
