Today you are ONE! Exactly a year ago, one day after your due date you stormed into this world at 1:58PM, weighing 6lbs 7oz. From the moment I first held you, I knew my life was never going to be the same. You have filled a void that I didn’t even knew existed and life is so much better now that you’re in it.
To be honest, Dad and I were not ready to become parents. We are still figuring it out! No amount of books or advice from other parents can actually prepare you for this. During the many sleepless nights I remember thinking how the days felt long and a year seemed so far away. But here we are! These past few months have flown by way too fast and now I’m wishing time would just slow down.
In just one year you have grown so much. You can sit, clap, wave bye, give hugs, give kisses, say “Mama, Dada, Mum, Thah (Grandpa in Khmer) and Tank Too” and have even taken your first steps. These small things that I never cared about before are now milestones we celebrate every day. You have gone from having 0 teeth to now having 6 sharp ones to bite my nose with. You love food and enjoy trying new things. Your favorite game is peek-a-boo and it makes you laugh hysterically. You love to feed me your stinky toes. Your laugh is infectious and can’t help but bring a smile to everyone who comes in contact with you.
You’re the spitting image of daddy but 100% a mama’s girl. I’m so thankful that I got to spend so much time with you. From carrying you for nine months and getting to be home with you for your first nine months is something I don’t take for granted. Our bond is indescribable and I pray that it continues to strengthen as you get older.
This first year has given us a glimpse of who you are and I’m so proud of the little girl you are becoming. You are already so independent, strong-willed, curious, friendly, and giving. You love to share your toys and food with your bubbas. Every day you amaze me more and more. I admire how you are so fearless and love that you get right back up and try again when you fall. I hope this is a quality that you take with you throughout your life.
Throughout this you have taught me how to be soft but strong, patience, selflessness, and what real unconditional love looks like. My heart has never been so full. Watching you grow has been our greatest joy. This next year will bring on new challenges and experiences that will continue to shape who you are. I’m excited to see what all you will accomplish. I hope you embrace it with the same enthusiasm that you tackled your first year with. If you need me, I will be right by your side to help guide you as best as I can. I hope you know that I will always be here to hold you or a shoulder to lean on when you need it. It has been the privilege of a lifetime to become your mother and we are so honored that you picked us to be your family.
No matter what challenges life brings us just know that I’ll love you forever, I’ll like you for always, as long as I’m living my baby you’ll be. I love you to the moon and back!
Happy Birthday Bugs!
